Counselling for Children & Young People

I believe involving parents and caregivers in the counselling process is crucial for a collaborative, supportive, and safe therapeutic environment for children and young people.

In counselling children and young people, I will:

  • Respect their autonomy by allowing them to choose whether their caregiver attends sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality unless there are concerns about their safety.
  • Promote and encourage open communication to enhance understanding, strengthen relationships, and cultivate a supportive family environment.

I ask caregivers to:

  • Request individual sessions to discuss matters that may not be suitable for the child or young person's session.
  • Share insights into the challenges faced by the child or young person and their family
  • Provide emotional support to the child or young person, fostering validation and understanding.
  • Highlight positive changes and skills learned to reinforce progress and encourage continued growth.
  • Be open to learning ways to support the child or young person’s wellbeing.

With deep respect, I acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations peoples of this land, and the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia. I pay my respects to the Birpai people, on whose beautiful land I live and work, and to their Elders past, present and emerging. I honour their enduring connection to culture, community, land, waters, and skies.

At Shené Regan Social Work & Counselling, I’m deeply committed to creating a space that is culturally safe, inclusive, and grounded in respect, compassion, and care for one another.

No matter your story, your background, your identity, your abilities, or who you love - you are welcome here. Whoever you are, and however you move through the world, this is a place where you will be met with kindness, understanding, and genuine human warmth.

More than just a practice, I hope this is a space of connection, healing, and belonging.
